Reentry and homelessness diversion

Reentry support that starts before the gate.

A Healing Place designs reentry and homelessness diversion kits, staff training, and county resource maps that help people leave incarceration with a plan, a map, and a kit.

Home › Reentry support

Everyone leaves with three things

A plan

A personal 30-day reentry and health plan, with first appointments set.

A map

Housing, clinics, pharmacies, transit, and jobs in their home county.

A kit

Documents protected, needs met, and the right contacts in hand.

Why it matters

The first weeks home decide so much of what follows.

Health coverage, housing, work, and support all hinge on the days right after release. North Carolina's Reentry 2030 plan names these gaps clearly.

18,000

people expected to leave North Carolina prisons in 2026.

4,292

people released without housing, in the state's 2025 Reentry 2030 progress report.

1%

of people released completed digital literacy training, per the same report.

Kits

Built to pass review and built to be used.

Every kit is customized by county and season, and tested with people who have been through reentry before it goes into production.

Kits are only part of the support. We pair them with training and resource mapping so each kit connects a person to real services in their county.

Our approach

Designed with people, not for them.

We believe the people closest to reentry know best what helps. Every product and training we build starts there.

Co-design

Kit contents and materials are tested with advisors who have lived reentry experience, who are paid for their expertise.

Build on what exists

Our tools work alongside case managers, release materials, health plans, and Local Reentry Councils, not in competition with them.

Measure what matters

We track what partners can act on: plans completed, appointments scheduled, contacts made, and kits reaching people when they need them.

7 weeks early Heat-Ready Durham curriculum kit, available in English and Spanish

Our work · Curriculum kit

Heat-Ready Durham

A Healing Place co-developed a facilitator curriculum kit for community-led extreme heat preparedness in Durham, North Carolina.

The kit was finished seven weeks ahead of schedule, community facilitators were trained eleven weeks early, and all materials are available in English and Spanish.

The same approach of facilitator-ready materials and community trainers now shapes our reentry work.
